10 Digital Marketing Statistics You Should Have Known Yesterday

Digital marketing has been critical to small businesses during this past year. Due to the pandemic social marketing has been the top priority in advertising for your business since people’s connections have only been through digital equipment. If you’re a small business that wants to utilize its brand during these hard times, here are some statistics you should have known yesterday.

One of the most popular digital activities in the world is social media. It has been gaining in popularity since the early 2000s when Myspace was the one major social media platform. Due to the number of mobile phones increasing the growth of social media has boomed immensely.

  • People spend an average of 144 minutes on social media per day.

With the increase of social media becoming a habit for most mobile users, the average person spends about two and half hours a day on social media platforms. Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or messenger apps, people are constantly connecting with each other through the digital world.

  • The primary form of media used in content marketing is video.

Hubspot interviewed 3,400 marketers back in 2020 where they found that content marketing is very important when it comes to investing in your business. They also found that video is the primary form of media compared to blogs, infographics, case studies, ebooks, white papers, checklists, and interviews.

  • In 2019, 96% of organizations met or exceeded customer expectations.

As customer experience becomes more important towards the success of a business, marketing departments are looking deeper into what their customers need and want when it comes to brand engagements. If a business is not targeting customers with a message that speaks to their interests then customers will look the other way.

  • Data-driven marketing increased 45% of businesses with new customers.

Data-driven marketing is what helps educate marketers into making big decisions when it comes to reaching out to potential customers. Businesses who look into data-driven personalization were given 5-8 times the return on investment (ROI) on marketing spending. Educating your business on what your audience is wanting in a business will help you gain more customers and obtain more revenue.

  • As of 2020, the use of analytics in marketing was 52.7%.

Analytics is the study of data collected through marketing campaigns. This data helps marketers recognize patterns between consumer behavior, creative preferences, and other marketing tools. Because marketing analytics helps optimize future campaigns, more than half of the marketing world has seen an insignificant change in their revenue by using this strategy.

  • 91% of consumers who visit a brand’s website will either buy from or recommend the brand to someone they know.

Sprout Social reported how consumers are affected by social media.  How easy it is to get your brand out there with a social media presence.  This statistic also shows how important it is for a small business to have a social media presence whether it be Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. If your brand is out there in the digital world, people will find you.

  • 90% of US marketers name Instagram as the most important social media platform for influencer marketing.

Instagram was where influencer marketing basically kicked off. It started off with blogs but eventually transformed to Instagram because it was a quick and easy way to advertise to a targeted audience – millennials and gen z-ers. This type of marketing strategy uses advertisements from individuals who are seen as freelance “content creators” and have a committed social following. Previously measured, influencer marketing ROI has been 11 times higher than other forms of digital marketing by making $5.20 to $6.50 for every dollar spent.

  • Email marketing brings in a $41 revenue.

In 2019, DMA discovered how effective their email campaigns were by measuring the number of click-throughs, open rates, and conversation rates they received. By sending out emails to potential clients companies found that 27% of respondents would head to the company’s website and 12% would visit the actual store.  These statistics show how email marketing is still relevant to modern marketing today.

  • 96% of B2B marketers use Linkedin for organic content distribution.

Linkedin is the world’s largest professional networking set with having more than 722 million users in more than 200 countries and territories. From the 2021 B2B Content Marketing Benchmarks, Budget, and Trends report, researchers found that marketers use Linkedin the most when communicating and connecting with other businesses.

Digital marketing is important for small businesses because it can reach so many outlets. From email and video to Linkedin and Instagram the digital world is taking over marketing completely. It succeeds your business in revenues and business-to-business contact. By researching data and analytics, marketers can get a better look at what their audience is striving for in the next big thing.
